Describe your business in 3 sentences or less?

High-quality hand folded, tied and dyed vibrant & rich tie dye apparel for adults & children. As well as home linens & decor.

What products or services do you offer?

I offer premium quality tie dye apparel for adults, children & home. I have an online store and also regularly attend local markets and festivals selling my dyes. I have built my business and brand from the ground up. Starting with 5 t shirts in stock, I have now grown to offering over 400 items in stock at all times. I also welcome custom orders and love when I get artist rein on your custom orders! I also offer all inclusive tie dye parties locally ( with travel for a fee!) that include my time, my knowledge and all the supplies to create your own tie dye t shirts using my professional high quality supplies!

Why are you in this type of business?

I have a creative spirit, I have never really been good at anything until I found tie dye. I started with a kit from Hobby Lobby, fell in love with the process and felt confident that I had a skill. It was the first time I have truly felt confident in something that I have offered. At the time I found this love, I was a stay at home Mom with my newborn and was looking at opportunities to work from home. I never imagined it would be doing as well as it is three years later but I am so so very thankful! Color makes my heart flutter and makes my brain wild, I have such a passion for art and color. It was why I fell in love with makeup, hair coloring and now tie dye!

How did you get started in this business?

Like I said, I had bought a kit thinking it would be a fun little project. I had no idea what I was doing, I had no idea how to tie dye and didn't care. I had an essential oil convention and was looking at different ways to make a little extra vacation money. I had this kit so I decided to ask my friends and family if they wanted to pay me for a tie dye shirt and hand paint a name or phrase. My friends and family were so incredibly supportive and bought so many I had to get another kit. I decide when I came back from the essential oil convention, that I would start an Etsy store. I did immediately, with almost nothing in stock. Mostly made to order listings. About two months into business, I decided to start working on my brand and bought a website domain and picked a host and created a website. I left the shop with Etsy but I created this website to provide information. It has definitely grown since and I now have my shop on Etsy and on my website. All my new stuff goes on my website and I try my hardest to get new inventory on the website at least every two weeks. I create every single week but with me doing this all alone, it takes me some time to get it all on the site.

How long have you been in business?

I have been tie dyeing and in business for three years. It has been such a wonderful three years, that it doesn't even seem that long!

What’s the best part of owning your own business? Worst challenge?

The best feeling is the flexibility and the genuine authentic human connections that I get the pleasure of having with this business. It truly drives my soul and makes me want to be an better human. My hope is that my dyes bring smiles to the folks whom are wearing it and those who see it on them/ in their home. Smiles are so infectious and can absolutely make someone's day. Its important to create smiles and to bring smiles, means so much to me! The flexibility to be able to work from home 85% of the time, stay home with my youngest daughter and be the Mom my oldest daughter needs while they are still young. That is ultimately why I decided to take this business on and it is the best part of it all. I can be Mom and I can also be a badass business woman who sends rainbows and smiles out into the world! How amazing is that?

How did you get the background and skills necessary to run this type of business?

Everything that I have learned for this business is all self taught. I have taken some business courses from some amazing people for my other business, photography. Some of these courses has certainly helped in various ways but I am mainly self taught. The skills are definitely learned with trial and error, thankfully more good thank error!

Who inspires your entrepreneurship?

My children are definitely my drive and inspiration. I think my youngest is a big influence because we are together for so much of the day. My oldest daughter is already ready to follow in my entrepreneurship footsteps. She paints and sells her small paints at some of my local markets. The satisfaction of hard work is something I want them to know and feel. Various artist are also daily inspirations! I can find inspiration everywhere!

How do you market your business?
My website, social media such as Instagram, Facebook and twitter. I attend local Texas Farmers Markets, music festivals and art shows. I also collaborate with other artists and bloggers!

Where do you see your business in the next year? In the next five years?

In the next year, I hope that I have all current debt for my business paid off. There isn't much, but I will have that all taken care of! In the next five years, I hope to have me a bus or rv to travel outside of Texas with my dyes.

What are the best tools that help your workflow?
Pandora, coffee and warm but breezy weather!

What mobile app or internet resources help your business the most?
I use the computer most of the time to add content but I use all the social media through my phone. I have recently started participating in Instagram stories. I like to watch those myself, so I figured maybe some of my fans/friends/lovers on my Instagram might like it.

Do you have any mentors? Do you mentor?
No, I don't have a mentor. I do for my photography business but not BriteLiteDyed. I do not mentor, I will leave that up to those who kick ass in teaching others!

Why do your customers select you over your competitors?
The quality and the passion I provide. I also very much pride myself of great customer service and I truly believe my customers love that.

What are the biggest issues running this business?
Time management of course, I think that is pretty across the board for those that work from home and take care of young kids while doing so! I don't really have any issues other than I have to do everything myself. I am not in the position to hire any help right now, so I am doing every single thing for this business. Including researching what will grow my business, what will make my customers happy and the coolest clothing out there. I like unique and variety so I like to show that in my selection that I offer. So, because of this, things don't get done in the time that I want them to be done! With that said, I think I have been doing a good job of "balancing". Sometimes, I will be completely horrible about chores and cooking then sometimes I will be on top of all of that.

How do you achieve balance in your life?
I have to be aware of everything that is happening, sometimes I fail and sometimes I don't. I don't really believe in balance in a mainstream way, I believe that balance can happen but that balance is different for everyone. For me, that balance means sometimes I kick more ass at business than family/home life and then sometimes I kick more ass at family/home life than business life. I am totally content with that!

What advice would you give Artsies wanting to launch a business? Don't second guess yourself, just go for it! It is fun, it is hard work and it is kick ass! I will never go back to working for someone else, I will always be an entrepreneur!
