Featured Artist: Chantal van den Dool
from Fotografie Chantal van den Dool

Tell us about yourself and your business.
I’m a dog trainer, boarding kennel owner, photographer, workaholic, can’t sit still person, creative, chaotic, perfectionist, animal lover, never to old to learn new stuff, good listener and Lensbaby Addict.

Where are you located?
I’m from a little town, named Kessel-eik in The Netherlands

Who or what inspires your art?
Everything around me that is involved with nature and daily life. Natural light, kids, animals, flowers and all the small things inspires me.

What do you love most about photography?
I love to show people how I see the things in this world. Making tiny things very big with all the details in a dreamy way.

Describe your style in 2 words.
Serene and colorful

Tell us about your specialization or what subjects you prefer to shoot.
I prefer to shoot nature, animals and kids. But most of all macro.

What do you do to jolt your creativity when it’s running low?
I’m doing my second 365 now and there are days that I struggle a lot what to shoot. Most the times I go online and visite photography groups were I’m a part of or I go on Pinterest. Pinterest is a really good media to new ideas and there are a lot of theme lists to find for photographers.

What’s in your camera bag?
My camera bag is too small to put everything in... that’s for sure. I have a Nikon D7000, extra cards, extra batteries, lens pen and my lenses. Nikon 1.8 50mm, Tamron 18-200mm, Tamron 70-300mm and of course my Lensbaby’s... Spark, Composer Pro, Sweet50, Sweet35, Edge80, SoftFocus optic, Double glass optic, Single glass optic, Pinhole optic, Plastic optic, Circulair Fisheye, Velvet56, the macro filters and  macro converters.

What are your Top 3 must haves when shooting.
My head full of ideas, empty cards, full batteries and Lensbaby.

Share a fun fact about yourself with the readers.Well there are a few fun facts to tell but one is recent... also a tip for others... if you ever want to shoot in nature or a garden and you need to sit on the floor... check the place good before you sit down!! Otherwise you sit in a ants nest or nettles and before you notice... it’s too late!

If you could photograph anyone in the world, who would he/she be?
I’m not that kind of photographer that wants to shoot VIP’s but if I have to choose give me the Grey’s Anatomy cast!

Natural light or artificial?
Natural light for sure!!

What impact does photography have on your family life? It doesn’t impact our family life, my husband works during the week and there are just animals here around me. I can shoot whenever I want to. But if the two of us go a day out I never leave the house without my camera...

What’s your most important artistic tool besides your camera? My mood and my creativity at that moment.

What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned since started photography?
I’m still learning every day, the most important thing is shooting in manual. And to learn something new, try it over and over and over again till you get the result you wanted.

What advice would you give to an artist just starting their journey in the photography world?
Don’t compare yourself to others, stay and be yourself, do what you like, not what other people like, be awesome in what you do and learn from it every single moment.
